Finding perimeter of Composite Figures with a semi-circle

Hello!! The problem I am having hard answering is one with a rectangle and semi-circle. The width of the rectangle is 23 ft and the width of the semi-circle is 8ft.

What the length of the rectangle? Where on the rectangle is the semi-circle located?

Agreed a picture would help here. You have a length listed for the Semi-circle, since circle has diameter does the length you have listed represent the diameter of the semi-cirle, does it represent the radius of the semi-circle? Is the length you have listed shared by the rectangle and the semi-circle?

Without having a diagram to refer to: It sounds like the DIAMETER of the semi-circle is 8 ft., which means the radius is 4 ft.


For the Perimeter, do not add in the diameter, as it is NOT on the OUTSIDE... This diameter is also the 4th side of the rectangle; we will add only three sides of the rectangle with the circumference of the semi-circle


8 + 23 + 23 + (Circumference of semi-Circle) = total perimeter

54 + [half of (pi x diameter) ]

approx. 66.6 feet
