There is more than one way to approach this problem. Let's try the following:
First, 1/5 of $45 would be $9 (9 x 5 =45).
Since Jon spent 4/5 of his money and 4/5 is 4 times 1/5 , then he would have spent 4 times $9:
4 x $9 = $36
You can also solve this problem by multiplying 4/5 x 45 = 18/5 = $36
