We use the method of long division when dividing regular numbers.
3x2 - 6x - 3 is our dividend
x + 1 is our divisor
First step:
Divide 3x2 by x. Place the quotient on top of the term -6x.
Second step:
Multiply the quotient by the divisor and subtract the product from the dividend, starting from the term 3x2. Bring down the extra term. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
