1.) Flying to Cancun with a tailwind a plane averaged 180 mph. On the return trip the plane only

averaged 146 mph while flying back into the same wind. Find the speed of the wind and the

speed of the plane in still air.

180 = p + w

146 =p- -w

326 = 2p

p = 163 mph in still air

180-163 = 17 mph wind speed

146+17 = 163
