If this says number 1 space

9 minus 3 times 1/3 plus 1 then you just apply the rules for the Order of Operations or PEMDAS

First there are no parentheses

Second there are no exponents

From left to right multiplication and or division should be done first so

3 x (1/3) = 1

Finally from left to right addition and subtraction would be done next

9 - 1 + 1 = 9
