To solve this by elimination you subtract both equations from each other!
So it would look like this:
x-5y=12
—(x-5y=7)
––––––––––
0 ≠ 5
The x's both cancel out and the 5y's also cancel out leaving us with a 0. 12 minus 7 gives us 5.
