to shift left by 2

y=-(x+2)^2 then the vertex is no longer the origin but (-2,0) which is left of (0,0) by 2

y=-(x-h)^2 has vertex (h,0) and when the original graph was shifted left, the vertex became (-2,0) with h=-2
