w
2w + 4
The width of the rectangle is unknown, so we will let the width of the rectangle = "w"
The length of the rectangle is 4cm more than twice the width (w), so the length can be written as 2 times the width plus 4 OR 2w + 4
We know that the perimeter of this rectangle is 80 cm, so when we add the lengths of all 4 sides, we will get a total of 80.
w + w + (2w + 4) + (2w + 4) = 80
2w + 2(2w + 4) = 80
2w + 4w + 8 = 80
6w + 8 = 80
-8 -8
6w = 72
÷6 ÷6
w = 12 cm
So, the width is 12 cm and the length is:
2(12) + 4
24 + 4 = 28 cm
12 cm
28 cm

Thank you so much! That makes more sense now.02/16/21
