- Ocean -> Atmosphere
- For the water from the ocean to get to the atmosphere, it must change from a liquid state to a gaseous state by way of evaporation.
- Atmosphere -> Clouds
- Water vapor in the atmosphere forms clouds by transitioning from a gaseous phase into particles of a liquid phase of water or solid phase of ice suspended in the air. This transition from vapor to liquid is condensation.
- Cloud -> Snow
- In cold temperatures, as the suspended particles in the cloud begin to fall, they collide with other ice crystals and accumulate, further freezing into snow.
- Glacier (river of ice) -> River
- A glacier transforms into a river due to the water changing from a solid to a liquid phase by way of melting.
- Cloud -> Soil
- Water vapor from a cloud returns to the soil by the process of precipitation, by which gravity pulls the water from the clouds resulting in rainfall.
