Our first step will be to distribute the 3 through the parentheses to get 3x - 18 on the right side.
On the left, bring down your y + 1 to get y + 1 = 3x - 18.
Now move the 1 to the right side by subtracting 1 from both sides to get y = 3x - 19.
Now subtract 3x from both sides to get -3x + y = -19.
In standard form, the coefficient of the x term must be positive.
So divide both sides by -1 to get 3x - y = 19.
