turn 1/3 into 1 by multiplying by 3 1/3 x 3 = 1

or multiply it by 6. 1/3 x 6 = 2

multiply the fraction by any integer multiple of the denominator and you get a while number

1/3 x 9 = 3

1/3 x 12 = 4

1/3 x 15 = 5

etc.
