2(x + 5) = 3x - 1
 
Distribute the 2 on one side of equation to get rid of parenthesis.
 
2x + 10 = 3x - 1
 
Subtract 2x on both sides of equation.
 
10 = x - 1  
 
Add 1 on both side of equation.
 
11 = x
 
Your solution is
 
x = 11
