Let x be the cost of each movie and y be the cost of each vdo game
You will get a system of equations with two unknowns.
5x + 3y = 37
2x + 6y = 40
Solve them using one of the 3 methods.
I will show you using elimination method.
Multiply equation 1 by 2.
10x + 6y = 74
Subtract equation 2 from this
8x = 34
X = 34/8 ( dividing both sides by 8)
Cost of movie, x = $4.25
Substitute this value in equation 2.
2(4.25) + 6y = 40
8.5 + 6y =40
6y= 31.5
Y = 5.25
Cost of vdo game= $5.25
Please substitute these values in first equation 5x + 3y = 37 to check your solution.
Hope this helps!
