Since 0.25 is the same as 1/4 it might be easier to think about this using 1/4:
This is a linear equation (it forms a straight line) and it is in the form "y = mx + b" or the slope-intercept form of a line. That means the number in front of the "x", which is 1/4, is the "m" or slope of the line (also known as the rate of change). It means the line goes up 1 unit for ever 4 unit it goes to the right. The number "3" is the value of "b" or the y-intercept. It is the place the line passes through the y-axis. So the graph looks like this:
The domain is the set of all the possible numbers you can plug in for "x" and that is an unlimited amount of possibilities. In fact, you can pick any real number for "x" so the domain is "all real numbers".
The range is the results as you plug in any real number for the value of "x" and, because x can be any real number, then f(x) can also be any real number. So the range is also "any real number".
