line the three numbers up and start adding the last decimals: 3 + 9 +0 =12 write down 2 and carry the 1
then add up 5 + 6 + 0 plus the 1 you carried over to get 12, write down the 2 and carry the 1
then addup 2 + 3 + 2 plus the 1 you carried over to get 8
the answer is 18.22 = $18.22
to check you answer use the rule of 9's
add up the digits 2+5 + 3 = 10, 1+0 = 1
3+6+9 = 18 = 9,
1+ 2 = 3
1+9 + 3 = 13 1+3=4
do the same with your answer: 1+8+2+2 = 13, 1+3 =4
the 4 in the problem matches the 4 in the solution. That's not a perfect check, but it makes it about 90% certain you didn't make a mistake.
Or just add them up again, but occasionally if you made mistake the 1st time, you may just end up making
the same mistake a 2nd time. If you them up a 2nd time, put them in a different order and it would be
a better check.
Or just punch each number into a calculator and add them that way.
