2x+3y=13.75 4x+2y=18.50 First multiply 2(2x+3y=13.75) and get 4x+6y=27.50. Then subtract the two equations from each other. 4x+6y=27.50 - (4x+2y=18.50) The x values cancel out. Then simplify. 0x+4y=9 Solve for y. y=9/4 y=2.25 A taco costs $2.25. Use one of the two equations and substitute y for 2.25 and solve for y. 2x+3(2.25)=13.75 2x+6.75=13.75 2x=13.75-6.75 2x =7 x=7/2 x=3.5 An enchilada is $3.50.
