Getting the foundation right
An equation equals something. Since we're not given that something, we need to write an expression. We do that by assigning a letter to represent "a number." Lets use n. Working backwards, we can say "six times" by 6n. And finally "2 less than" by 6n - 2. Think of n as one cookie. 6n - 2 would give you 4 cookies. Then imagine n was 10 cookies. 6n - 2 would give you a whole lot more!
