Line a: 3x – 2y = –4
Line b: y = 3/2 x – 5
The slope of line b is 3/2 or 1.5
Solving the Line A equation for y gives us:
-2y=-3x-4
2y=3x+4
y=3x/2+2
The slope of line a is 3/2, just like with line b. So either they are the same line, or they are parallel.
The two lines are not the same line, because when you plug in 1 for x you get y=-3.5 for line b and y=3.5 for line a. They are thus not the same line, but they have the same slope, so they must be parallel.
