asked 01/21/21For the box shown, the total area is 76 cm2.
(Assume that all the dimensions in the figure are in centimeters.) x + 34x A
rectangular box is shown. The length is labeled x + 3. The width is labeled x. The height is labeled 4. Determine the value of x (in centimeters). x = cm

Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
76 = x(x+3) = x^2 + 3x
x^2 + 3x -76 = 0
x + 9/4 = sqr(76+ 9/4)
x =-9/4 + (1/2)sqr313 = about 17.69 - 2.25 = 15.44 cm for width
length = x+3 = about 18.44 cm
height = 4
UNLESS by "total area" you meant the 6 surface areas of the box, then
76 = 2(x^2 + 3x + 4x + 4x+12) = 2(x^2 +11x + 12)
x^2 + 11x + 12 = 38
x^2 + 11x - 26 =0
x = -11/2 + (1/2)sqr(121+104) = -5.5 + .5sqr225 = 2 cm
which comes out so evenly that maybe that is what you intended
dimensions are 2 x 4 x 5 cem
