For Some value of x
0.5 X +3 = 2X -2.5
Subtracting 0.5 X from both sides
0.5 X - 0.5 X + 3 = 2X -2.5 -0.5 X
3 = 2X - 05 X - 2.5
adding 2.5 on both sides
3+2.5 = 1.5 X -2.5 +2.5
5.5 = 1.5 X
X = 11/3

Just set both equations equal to each other and solve for x
0.5x+3 = 2x-2.5
1.5x = 5.5
x = 5.5/1.5 = 11/3
Check:
(1/2)(11/3) + 3 = 4.8333333
(3/2)(11/3) - 2.5 = 22/3-2.5 = 4.8333333

Find out by setting both equal to each other and solve for x:
0.5x + 3 = 2x - 2.5
0.5x - 0.5x + 3 = 2x - 0.5x - 2.5
3 = 1.5x - 2.5
3 + 2.5 = 1.5x - 2.5 + 2.5
5.5 = 1.5x
x = 3.67
