-x+4y=24 , 4y = 24+x , y= (24 + x )/4
substitute y in the second equation ,
-2 x + y = - 8
-2 x + (24+x)/4 = - 8 , multiply both side by 4 to get rid from the fraction
-8 x + 24 + x = -32
-7 x + 24 = - 32
-7 x = -32 -24
-7 x = - 56 , divide both sides by (-7)
x = 8
you have y= (24 + x) /4 , plug the value of x
y = (24 + 8 )/4
y= 32/4
y=8
