THe cost DEPENDS on the # of miles....

so the COST is the DEPENDENT variable, and the mileage is the INDEPENDENT variable

c = 3.5*20 + 2.8 = 72.8

44.8 = 3.5*n + 2.8

42 = 3.5 * n

42 / 3.5 = n

420/35 = n

60/5 = n

n = 12 miles
