average rate of change = slope = (f(-3)-f(-8))/(-3--8) = (f(-3)-f(-8)/-11 = -(f(-3)-f(-8))/11
you need to find the y values corresponding to -3 and -8, the points (-3,y1) and (-8,y2)
y1 = f(-3) and y2 = f(-8). You need either the equation of the line or the graph to find the 2 y values. Plug them into the above equation for the slope to get the average rate of change, which is a constant, if the line is a straight line.
