Hi, my main camera is a Canon 5D MkIII with a 24-105mm lens. My second unit is a Canon 7D. My lenses are Canon: 17-40mm, 70-200mm with a 1.4x converter. I also have a Tamron 150-600mm lens. Of the second tier lenses Tamron is my choice and I have been using them for more than 40 years.
If I am shooting sports then I will often use the 7D, which has a faster frame rate. In very sunny weather, however, it doesn't handle contrast as well as the 5D because it is a 3/4 sensor.
If you are starting out I would see about getting a two-lens pack with a body, the best you can afford. Then work your way up.
And remember ... becoming a good photographer is all about getting out and taking lots of images. Practice, practice, practice.
