asked 01/09/21Question about lewis diagrams and its relationship to boiling point of atoms
- a) Sketch Lewis diagrams for H2 and F2.
b) Boiling point is related to the structure of a substance. What, if anything, about the structures of H2 and F2
you drew could account for the differences in their boiling points?

Hard to draw Lewis structures on this platform, but here is a desription.
H : H is Lewis structure for H2
F : F with 3 lone pairs on each F is the Lewis structure for F2
Neither H2 nor F2 have hydrogen bonding, nor are they polar. So, the only real difference would be dispersion forces. Since F2 is larger and has more electrons, it would have greater dispersion forces and would have a higher boiling point.
