"He vows to endure to be burned, to be bound, to be beaten, and to be killed by the sword." The oath of gladiators, transcribed above in the words of Petronius, reveal the mindset of not only those who participated in the Games, but also those who watched and reveled in the show.  In your opinion, could any modern-day men and women be said to be living out the oath, or parts of it, in their professions?

I think on some level, it exists.

The Oath of gladiators indicates the resilience, persistence, and self-sacrifice of the gladiators. Although they were slaves, the process of training them to be gladiators had made them proud of this job. In modern days, many professionals have this kind of work ethics to work very hard in order to be successful. Many athletes in sports games may also somehow live out the oath.

However, the gladiators and their games happened in ancient Rome. They were slaves who trained to be gladiators to entertain the aristocrats, the idea of self-sacrifice may not as prevalent as thousands of years ago.
