Given the equation y − 3 =  (x + 6) in point-slope form, identify the equation of the same line in standard form. (1 point)

Remember standard form is Ax + By = C (where A, B, and C must be integers, and usually A is expected to be a whole number)

First distribute the 1/2 on the right side.

y - 3 = (1/2)x + 3

Now we need all the variables on the left side and the constants on the right! (subtract 1/2x from both sides and add 3 to both sides).

-1/2x + y = 6

BUT the coefficient of x must be a WHOLE number (no negatives or fractions allowed).

In order to achieve this, we will multiply the entire equation by -2!

(-2)(-1/2x) + (-2)(y) = (-2)(6)

The result?

A. x - 2y = -12

It is also the only choice that is in standard form ;-) The others are all slope intercept form!
