State whether the function represents exponential growth or decay. (1 point each)
1. y=0.25(1.02)x 2. h(x)=10(1/3)x
-growth -growth
-decay -decay
3. The population of a certain species can be modeled by the function .
Part A: Is the population increasing or decreasing? (1 point)
-increasing
-decreasing
Part B: According to the model, what was the initial population of the species? (1 point) Put only a number into the entry.
The initial population was _______ creatures.

maybe you mean in 1. that y=0.25(1.02)^x and y=10(1/3)^x
those are exponential functions. the first is growth, the second is decay
if the base is greater than 1, then it's growth' such as 1.02
if the base is less than 1, it's decay. such as 1/3
Jules, if you start with, say, 12 of something and it grows, are you multiplying by a fraction? Is 1/3 of something bigger or smaller?
If it decays, qre you multiplying by a number greater than 1? If I start with the same 12 and multiply by, say, 1.03, is it getting smaller?
If I start with an amount and it grows by 4% daily, I now have 104% of the original amount after day 1, then 104% of the 104% after day 2, or amount(1.04)2.
If something decays by 4% daily, I'm left with 96% after day 1, then 96% of the 96% after day 2, or amount(0.96)2.
You left out the function in #3.

Sorry, and thank you, the function in #3 is P(t) = 98(1.045)^t12/22/20
