What is the equation of a line that goes through the point, (6,5) and is perpendicular to the line y=2x+5

y=(-1/2)x + b where -1/2 is the negative inverse of 2, and b = the y intercept

perpendicular lines have slopes that are the opposite sign and an inverse. inverse of 2 is 1/2

plug in the point x=6, y=5 to calculate b

5=(-1/2)(6) + b

b =5+3 = 8

y=-x/2 + 8 or

x+2y = 16 is the equation of the perpendicular line though the point (6,5)
