Word problems are my weaknesses.

A student is making a drink from a canned concentrate which has the following instructions.

Mix together one can of concentrate with three full cans of water.

If the can contains 15 ounces of mix, how many pints of drink will the mix make?

Answer 1

Ratio of water to concentrate is 3 to 1 (three times as much water as concentrate)

So if a can contains 15 ounces of concentrate, you will add 45 ounces of water, giving you 60 ounces of drink total.

There are 16 ounces per pint, so you will have 60/16 = 3.75 pints of drink
