The best example to think of for this question is the motions that are possible at the hip (ball and socket joint). The first motion would be flexion and extension in the sagittal plane, as if going to kick a soccer ball. Another motion would be adduction and abduction that occur in the frontal plane. The last motion is internal and external rotation (think squishing a bug with your foot) that occurs in the transverse plane. A ball and socket joint allows motion in all 3 planes, so therefore it is the most mobile joint in the body.
