d^2 = (x1-x2)^2 + (y1-y2)^2
distance squared = sum of squares of the 2 sides of a right triangle
d^2 = 0^2 + 25
d = 5
Of course, you could have seen that immediately when both x coordinates are equal. That leaves the difference in y coordinates as the distance between the 2 points: 3- -2 = 3+2 = 5
