Brand X sells 32 oz. bags of mixed nuts that contain 52% peanuts. To make their product they add peanuts to Brand A's mixed nuts which contain 20% peanuts. How much of each do they combine?

Answer 1

52(32) = 20(A) + 100(32-A)

1664 = 20A + 3200-100A

80A = 1536

A = 1536/80 = 384/20 = 98/5 = 19.6 ounces of Brand A mixed nuts

and 32-19.6= 12.4 ounces of peanuts

to get Brand X product

They're combining 100% peanuts to 20% peanuts to get 52%. average of 100 and 20 = 60

52 is a little less than 60. so you want a little less of pure peanuts than Brand A

12.4 is a little less than 19.6
