Hey Logan! I hope you're having a great day so far!
So, it looks like we are curious to know a little bit more about FUNCTIONS!!!
So, your question is if: f(x) = 6x+4, find f(-2).
So, I first want to line up our f(x) and f(-2).
Next, I want you to see that in this example, our x-value = -2, meaning anytime we see an "x", we are going to replace it with a "-2" to find our "y" value, which is represented by our "f(x)". Let's get started!
First, we want to (like I mentioned), substitute a "-2" anytime we see an "x" in our equation.
f(-2) = 6(-2) + 4
Now, we get to do some math! What is 6 x -2?
f(-2) = -12 + 4
Lastly, we are going to want to add 4 to a NEGATIVE 12. This can be a little tricky sometimes but a little secret tip here is you can subtract 4 from 12 and then make that number negative. So, 12-4 = 8, and then make it -8.
f(-2) = -8
So, to restate our final answer, whenever x = -2, f(-2) or y = -8!
Hope that helps and if you would like, I would be more than happy to help you further in a live lesson!
Have a great day Logan!
