You should be familiar with the order of operations, sometimes referred to as PEMDAS. It outlines the order of operations in an expression. Do them in this order.
- P: Parentheses
- E: Exponents
- MD: Multiplication and division, left to right
- AS: Addition and subtraction (left to right)

Apply these steps to your problem:
3(1−3x)−(2+x)
3 - 9x -2 - x
1 -10x
There was nothing more to be done within the parentheses, nor are there exponents. The third step is multiplying the "3" and the "-1" times the values in the parentheses, to yield the second line. Then just add/subtract the like terms (combine them).
