Sense and Sensibility By Jane austen

In terms of a hero, what is the difference between, say, a Beowulf or Sir Gawain (who are not carbon copies to begin with) and a character in Austen's novel Sense Sensibility? What are the key scenes (with tension or conflict) and for whom? Consider the implications of a tense scene as resolved or not. Analyze precisely what happens between Marianne and Willoughby after he "rescues" her? Do you have to like a work of art to appreciate it?

Which other characters are important in determining the actions of the main characters? Why does Elinor say nothing to Lucy Steele about Edward? What motivates Lucy to tell Elinor about Edward? Who is the main character? How do you know? How would you describe, define, explain, and evaluate the main character both externally (socially, that is) and internally (psychologically, that is)? Is Edward a shy, bumbling fool, or is he embarrassed about something (and compare him to Brandon and Willoughby)?
