"The ratio of the length to width of a rectangle is 5 : 3"
This means that the actual lengths form a ratio of 5x:3x. where x is some positive number. The fraction 5x/3x reduces to 5/3, which is a ratio of 5:3.
So, if x=1, the lengths are 5 and 3.
If x=2, the lengths are 10 and 6.
Iv x=3, the lengths are 15 and 9.
What is width if length = 60 ?
60 : length
5*12 : 3*12
The length is 36 (that is, 3*12).
