For two lines to be parallel, they have to have the same slope, so you have one part of the equation (y=x), but you have to find the Y intercept, Since the slope is 1, you multiply it with the point x value, you get 1. Now, you want to know how you can go from 1 to -2, you have to subtract 3, so the Y intercept is -3. The equation is y=x-3, you can try plugging in the value to check y=(1)-3 = -2, that's correct, so you know it's the right equation.
