asked 11/30/20A Toy Rocket and a Drone Again
Functions and
give the height, in feet, of a toy rocket and a drone,
seconds after they are released. Here are the graphs of
(for the rocket) and
(for the drone).
-
Which of the inequalities is true:
or
?
- What was the height of the drone when the toy rocket hit the ground?
-
For what value of
is
true? What does this tell you about the drone and the toy rocket?

Tami is correct (not that you needed me to tell you that, but I’ll just repeat here)
- R(2) >D(2) is the true inequality. When you are looking at inequalities, you have to look at the values at 2 seconds. The R is higher than D therefore R(2)>D(2).
- This time we have to find where the R lands. Looking at the parabola, we see that the rocket ends at 5 seconds. The question is really what is the height of the drone at 5 seconds. And that would be 20 feet.
- This time we are looking for the intersection of the line because that is the point in time where the rocket and drone are the same height.
