To solve this, you need to solve for x in the inequality
4x + 2 < -6
Isolate x on the RHS by subtracting 2 and dividing by 4 on both sides
4x < -6 - 2
4x < -8
x < -8 / 4
x < -2
This tells you that the solution set that makes the statement TRUE are all values of x that are LESS THAN -2 (but does NOT include -2)
So the only values that are CORRECT are -5 and -3
You can check by plugging in ALL the values of x given and you will see that only -5 and -3 make the statement true
