What I think this question is asking--is Sudan an Arab country or an African country. Geographically the physical boundaries of North Africa include Sudan along with Egypt, Libya, Algeria, and Morocco. But Sudan could also be situated as part of the Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula. Technically the Middle East only refers to Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq. But northern Sudanese identify as "Arab." The country is also north of the African Transition Zone (ATZ). The ATZ separates religions--Islam in the north and Christian to the south. It also separates two different climates--arid or tropical. Cultural differences also exist between north and southern Sudan. Often Northern Sudanese warred with Southern Sudanese, who identify as "Africans."
