Put the words into numbers:
". . . the product of a number and 6 . . ." can be written as 6X, where X is the number we seek.
"Nine more . . ." means add nine to the above operation: 6X + 9
"Equals 2" is easy: = 2
Put these together to get:
6X+9 = 2
Rearrange:
6X = -7
X = -7/6
Check the answer:
6*(-7/6) + 9 = ? (hopefully = 2)
-42/6 + 54/6 = 12/6 = 2 {It works.]
