Hello Brooke, There are two ways to do this problem. You were not clear.
( 2 x 100) + ( 7 x 1) + ( 2 x 1/10) + (9 x 1/100) + (4 x 1/1000)
= (200) + (7) + ( 2 ) + ( 9 ) + ( 4 ) ( Now add the 200 plus the 7 on top we have)
_____ ___ ___ ____ _______
1 1 10 100 1000
207 + 2 + 9 + 4
_____ ____ ___ ____
1 10 100 1000 ( Now the LCD by looking is 1000)
= ( 207,000) + (200) + ( 90 ) + ( 4) Now add the numerator giving)
____________________________________
1000
= 207,294
_________
1000
= 207.294 --------> Ansr
Second Way ( Set your calculator to at least 5 places--if you can)
( 2 x 100) + ( 7 x 1) + ( 2 x 1/10) + ( 9 x 1/100) + ( 4 x 1/1000)
2 x100 = 200.00 ---> (whole number with decimal point)
7 x1 = 7.00 -----> ( whole number with decimal point)
( 9 x 1/100) = 0.09000 ( with decimal point)
( 4 x 1/1000) = 0.00400 ( with decimal point)
Now add all the numbers with a decimal point) we have:
( 200.00 + 7.00 + 0.9000 + 0.00400 )
= 207.294 ( when added ) ----> Ansr
Hope this helps !!
