Given quadratic is x2 - x + 6 = 0
Discriminant is b2 - 4ac (part of quadratic formula for finding roots)
for above function a = 1, b = -1 and c = 6
hence b2 - 4ac = (-1)(-1) - 4(1)(6) = 1 - 24 = -23
+ve discriminant = 2 real solutions
0 discriminant = 1 solution
-ve discriminant = 2 imaginary solutions (involving i)
