If you mean by (8:1) that x = 8y then just plug that into the equation to get
2y + 4(8y) = 12
2y + 32y = 12
34 y = 12
y = 12/34 = 6/17
x = 8y = 8(6/17) = 48/17

I'm going to take a wild guess here.
I think you meant (8,1). Are you trying to see if it's a point or the solution to the line? If so, it's not.
(8,1) is the (x-value, y-value).
Plug the 8 in for x & the 1 in for y.
So, you will have 2(1) + 4(8) = 12.
2(1) = 3 & 4(8) = 32, so 2(1)+4(8) = 35.
35 does not equal 12.
Therefore, the point is not on the line. Therefore, it's not a solution.
