Parallel and Perpendicular Lines

Write the slope-intercept form of an equation of the line that passes through the given point and is perpendicular to the line of the equation shown. (leave your y-intercept in improper fraction format) 

(4,1) -3x+y=2

-3x + y = 2

y = 3x+2

so the slope of the given line is 3

the slope of the perpendicular line is -1/3

B = y - mx = 1 - (-1/3)(4)

= 1 + 4/3

= 3/3 + 4/3

= 7/3

y = -1/3x + 7/3
