The length of a rectangle is 3.5cm more than the width. The perimeter of the rectangle is less than 30cm. Write and solve an inequality that would give you the possible measure of the width.

p = 2L +2w = 2(3.5+w) + 2w = 7 +2w +2w= 7 + 4w < 30

7+4w < 30

4w < 30-7

4w < 23

w < 23/4

w < 5 3/4 cm

width is less than 5.75 centimeters
