Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
the point is not on the line
substitute those values for x and y to get
-7 = -4(-8) + 2 = 34
-7 does not equal 34
Maybe the problem was find the distance from the point to that line?
If so find the equation of the perpendicular line to the given line through that point
it has a slope negative inverse of -4 or +1/4
perpendicular equation is y=(1/4)x + b where b= the y intercept
plug the point into this equation to get -7 = (1/4)(-8) + b, then b = -5
the equation is y= (1/4)x - 5
find where it intersects the given line, then calculate the distance from that intersection point to (-8,-7)
