Homer has a dice tin that is 1/8 full. He puts 6 extra dice in and the tin is now 1/7 full. How many dice can fit inside the tin?

x dice are 1/8 full. full is 8x

x+6 = 1/7 full. full is 7(x+6) = 7x+42

set those two expressions equal as they both represent the full maximum

8x = 7x + 42

x = 42

full = 8x = 336 dice

or full = 7x+42 = 7(42)+ 42 = 8(42) = 336 dice
