Hello, Eulalie,
C2H4O2 + NaHCO3 → NaC2H3O2 + H2O +CO2
- Specify the phase of each of the compounds. CO2 is in the gas phase, the baking soda is presumably in the solid phase when the liquid vinegar was poured on top. The sodium bicarbonate is at least partially dissolved in the liquid water produced, but most of it is likely a solid precipitate.
- Is this a chemical change? Give evidence. Yes, gas was released and there may have been some heat produced.
Bob
- Where is the sodium, Na, before the change? After the change? The sodium was in the sodium bicarbonate reactant and winds up in the sodium acetate product.
